Prozac for Laptops?

i’ve been using a loaner laptop for the last month in order to beta test vmware’s fusion (first generation MacBook Pro). Pandora is her name, and, bless her heart, she’s caused nothing but trouble in the beginning. then, suddenly, she worked just fine. then, she started causing trouble again.

Pandora is clearly bipolar. “ooooh, we’re a happy laptop! we are working! look! here’s word! Look! here’s wireless! look! here’s google! look! let’s play games! lets do things!”

Then, “no, there is no wireless! there is no word! i dont work! who are you? what do you want? what do you expect from me? life is horrible! turn me off!”

then, “look! i found wireless! look! outlook is running! look! here’s some java! let’s play solitare! let’s connect to the vpn and talk to the cool servers at work!”

then, “no! there is no vpn! i have no IP! what do you mean, you want to print? there is no printing! there is no work! there is no fun! life is horrible! turn me off!”

Here’s an example – i am in a meeting, and i desperately want to download and view the ppt offered by our brilliant ADFUSTI. but, Pandora is having a little episode. over the course of one minute, i captured screenshots of her wireless connectivity.

on

off

just imagine it, blinking on and off like a circus light.

oh, and the Rainbow Swirly of Doom. I see that a lot, too.

oh, and she runs hot. REALLY hot.

She is not a lap friendly laptop. Poor thing.

Sigh.

Interlocking Filet Dishcloth

I made this really cool dishcloth for February’s Crochet List dishcloth exchange out of the Interlocking Filet stitch. Sorry for the crappy pics – I ended up taking them at the post office. I absolutely love how the square turned out! Once I got the hang of how the filet interlocked, it was very easy, and I think I will make more of these in the future.

Spring-y Squares

Made these darling, warm, spring-y squares for the Feb round of CLGSX. I really liked this color combo!

The squares are the Chris Simon’s Little Dahlia Square and Lisa’s Kaleidoscope Square.

sorry for the crappy shot – i forgot and then took it at the post office.

Help! My Dreams have been Hijacked!

K, so y’all know I’m taking these classes at the local community college, right? Word (specialist), Word (expert), and Excel. Aw yea, loads o fun. Really, I do like MS2K7 over previous editions… when I can find the right friggin’ tab. And it’s not like MS’s crappy help will give you an image with a big red arrow pointing to what you want. or even a handy file path.

So this Saturday I spent nearly all day doing 3 chapters of homework and stuff (with fun breaks here and there, like ‘put the laundry in the dryer’ and ‘mop the kitchen floor’). For whatever reason, the had-been-good-until-this-point-textbook took a break from reality and failed to clarify some ‘click heres’ in a few (most) particularly important places, resulting in some very hair tearing and frustrating hunts, for example, the elusive “Edit Image Design Tab” (which I honestly dont think exists). Finally, after doing nothing even remotely satisfying for an entire friggin’ saturday, I was done.

Come nite nite, yea, guess what I dreamt. Word. Excel. Putting images into Word. And Excel. Putting Excel into Word, and Word into Excel.

Not fun. I do NOT think dreaming about Microsoft Products is remotely gratifying.

sigh.

The Dafghan

Yaaay! The Dafghan! 120 six inch squares, 40% of which came from CL granny square exchange members. I edged each of the squares with a round of sc. I stitched them together with slip stitches through the back loops on the wrong side, which gave the front an interesting ridge effect. I finished it by edging it with 2 rounds of dc. D loves it. : )

Headfonze

Ah, the things I can now say to this man….

See, I have all this friggin homework that comes with these friggin classes I’m taking at Chaffey. I’m glad I’m taking them, mind you; I’m learning MS Word and Excel 2k7 AND enjoying an extra 300$ a month by having my student loans on in school deferment, but sheesh! I get to blow significant chunks of my free time on homework.

So back to our story. Since I have to *think* while doing the aforementioned homework, I’ve been griping on D to use headphones when listening to his music or playing his ‘kill ‘em all’ shooter games (granted, the machine guns and death screaming sounds are shockingly relevant to using MS 2k7, but still disruptive to though processes). D goes off and gets a pair of skullcandy headphones. They work remarkably well – i cant hear a thing and neither can he, from the outside world.

I now find it amusing to stand behind him and say things like, “Jesus visited me in my dreams last night and I am carrying the second coming of christ” or “I’m having a torrid love affair with a donkey I met online” or “I’m taking your wallet to the Apple store, honey.”

Square for Arlene

This here’s my 12 inch square for January’s Big Square exchange, CLBSX. The pattern is called “Lovely in Green” and can be found here. I did it in red, tho, for Arlene. : )
