Doily for Donnie

I made this doily for my partner in the Crochet List’s doily/coaster exchange. The pattern came from 99 Little Doilies. I am so pleased with how it turned out!

Shamrock Doily and Coasters

I made these for my exchange partner for the CL doily exchange. I got the pattern from Crochet! magazine, and after I saw the cute little shamrocks I knew I had to make it. I’m so pleased with how they turned out!

Coasters for Dorothy

Made these for this round of the CL doily exchange. I used a size three thread and a 00 steel hook. I am pleased with how they turned out; they’re thick, and will be good for catching heat and condensation.

Apple Doily

Aint this so fab? This is a gift to my good friend Cindi Trainor cuz we are Mac freaks.

I graphed it and made it in filet using size 10 thread and a size 6 steel hook. I would increase/decrease in the corners of the squares where I needed a diagonal line to simulate the curves. It was a challenge; first time I’d done diagonals and I totally winged it, and I am really pleased with the results!

Baroque Doily

If it aint baroque… dont fix it. ha ha

I made this really awesome doily for my last partner in Secret Crochet Pals. I am SO pleased and impressed with it! It is made with 8 triangle motifs made out of size 10 thread and a size 6 steel hook. Oh, and blocked to hell and back to get that sharp triangly shape. The motifs came from a really awesome Japanese motif book a friend Ruth gave me. I’d share the title, but, well, I cant read it. Thankfully, the book graphs all their motifs.

I love this doily!

Mulit-Doily

Made this for my Secret Crochet Pal last round, from 99 Little Doilies. It worked up super quick, as all the little doilies in that book do, but did turn out teenier than the stated gauge. So, I added a few more rows so it looked more doily-like than bookmark-like. Still, cute!

Grandma’s Doily

Recently we celebrated my Gramma’s 90th birthday with a huge bash. I didnt get a card… bad granddaughter, but I did whip up this cute little doily for her. She’s tickled, and placed it on her vanity under a folding picture frame.

The pattern is from 99 Little Doilies, and instead of using a size 10 thread and a 7 hook, I used a size 3 thread and a size 1 hook.

Sewing Thread

So recently I was inspired to try my hand at crocheting with sewing thread. My goodest buddy, Tina of Secret Crochet Pals, made the neatest little doily out of this rainbow varigated sewing thread. So, I thought, “oooh, that’s neat and I want to try!”

So I chose a large, 15 round, 13″ pattern that called for a size 10 thread and a size 7 hook. Since the theme on CLDX, which is what these doilies were for, was fall colors, I dug around and found three shades of orange/brown for my experiment. I chose a size 9 hook.

I really, really love how it turned out, but it’s way smaller than I expected! I figured I’d be close to 8″, no…. it was a little over 4″ (but sure makes a cute little coaster!). I love the texture of the sewing thread, and the unusual color scheme that the three related hues created. I love how it lies flat on it’s own, yet remains soft. I hate how the pesky, silly little threads would slip off the hook, which made crocheting this take longer than normal and border on the “I’m about to throw you against the wall” level of frustration. Will I do this again? Absolutely! But I think i’ll use 6 strands of thread instead of 3, and a larger hook. : )

And since the requirements for this swap is 1 8″ doily or 2 4″ coasters, I whipped this cutie up, too.

Purse and Coasters for Mary

I had Mary for the last round of CLDX and CLHBX, so I got to save on shipping. :-p

For Mary’s purse, I used this really neato yarn I got from someone on freecycle. I haven’t a clue what the yarn is, but I did double it with some size 5 cotton thread to give it weight. I also lined it as things would clearly fall through the holes in the stitches.

For her coasters, I used a size 10 cotton thread an a coaster pattern I got from a library book. They were very easy to make. : )

Prize Doily

I really enjoyed this little thing. It turned out smaller than I thought it would, but it’s really darling. I got the pattern from 99 Little Doilies, which is a great book full of neat, smaller doilies, which are perfect for CLDX. And besides, I like anything with a spider stitch in it… : )

Thread Coasters

I did these 2 thread coasters for the last round of the CL Doily & Coaster exchange, and I’m so pleased with how they turned out! These are only the 2nd coasters I’ve ever made, and I’m pleased! I got the pattern from the Pattern a Day calendar, kinda modifying it a bit so they would be 4 inches in diameter in order to meet the exchange guidelines.

We’re gearing up for round 2, and I’m planning a special surprise drawing for one lucky winner!!!! If you like thread, you should join today! Get yer thread on! : )

Anna’s Knot Doily

I really like Anna, and I do believe that if we lived closer we’d be joined at the hip. So, I wanted to make her something special for the next puffy that goes off her way. So, I found this.

Picture 2.jpg

We’re both Witches, and the Celtic knotwork in the center is significant to us in that it illustrates how all life is interconnected. There is no end, no beginning, everything is one cycle and interwoven.

The doily is the Double Triquetra Square from Crochet with Bits and Pieces. It was pretty easy to make, once I figured out the whole cord making thingie.
